for duo piano (2001)

  This piece is a transcription of an earlier piece for piano and interactive electronics. In many ways the piece represents an effort to reconcile my present efforts as a composer to the Romantic music that I learned as an aspiring pianist; the piece claims its highly visual gestures from this heritage. The composed “quote” that appears towards the end is the subject of the title; while quotation has implicit appeal for my electro-acoustic side, the implications of the need for such naked otherness are perhaps troubling. Resonance is important to the work in terms of both sonic structure and metaphor.
